MOD 2009

Monday 5. Jan 2009,
first day of BI+KHiO MOD 2009!
Today we started a new round of our joint course MoD - standing for 'management of design' and the related themes that students and faculty may wish to put into this collaborative learning project, sometimes also called BI+KHiO. We all met at KHiO's old building in Ullevålsveien 5. For many this was the very first day, a cold Monday, at school in the New Year. Thus good to meet in what we experienced as a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere at KHiO!
So far we have 18 groups and about 59 students participating from BI plus a growing number from KHiO incl. also visiting exchange students, it will be clear tomorrow how many we are all together!

The first day offered
- meeting of everybody with formation of groups,
- introduction into the program and its goals and work methods,
- brief intro into the origin, vision, and background of MoD,
- brief intro into the main task for this joint learning project and the opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration BI + KHiO
- an introductory lecture into an extreme & inspiring project (cf. Reidar's White Hat),
- orientation about the 3 weeks program and hand outs of the detailed program,
- brief introduction into the creative or innovation challenges
as well as project management challenges and possibilities.

Birgit has some more copies of the program, and Kristin is handling the group composition and updates of groups.
Dori is handling who is contributing what and how from KHiO (He arrived late Monday due to an emergent flight problem so this is sorted out Tuesday).
NB See also updates and announcements as well as handouts/course documents on BI's blackboard student website under BI course Visual Communication and Design! An updated group overview is already posted there.

At the end of the day we had a tour around the various workshops and studios of KHiO.
Thinking back on this day, I learned f.ex. that
...it can be triggering to think big, yet be able to put it in a hat when working with ideas.
...And that project management is no rocket science but can still be worthwhile for a creative project.
... That Edvard Munch used one of the graphic printing machines still at KHIO, and this old one is even today preferred by some artists at KHiO.
...Also, everyone has already some techniques, though few can actually make a piruette, so how can we use all those techniques including the scarce varieties...
Birgit
