GOOD PRESENTATIONS. Promising ideas and presentations by student groups on last Friday, 23 Jan, 2009. 18 mixed business and design student groups presented, each and all focusing on one core idea, as well as presenting their project organization, budget and plans around their idea. Thanks for your good work, so far!
Ideas vary from lighting up the riverside of Akerselva to creating access of water for all! Many projects were triggered by a blend of social, cultural, environmental and/or health concerns for a variety of people. Most projects related to target groups in Oslo region but visions for further expansions of concepts were also suggested. Design for all thinking was an explicit or implicit part of several projects. Art were proposed as part of many projects in ways so as to allow work for younger artists. All student groups had worked on improving the projects' viability in terms of a sound financial and business foundation, yet most had met some difficulties in obtaining access to for example the right entities and persons in Oslo municipality. Few were actually for-profit projects, but some did work on sorting out how much their idea might be worth.
BLOGGING. Some groups have presented their group and idea here on the blog, some have not. Could the ones who have not yet presented here, do a brief one, at least? I agree that it is better late than never.
(Also, I guess your idea may have some protection if it is published, cf. Åndsverksloven, but this is not my field, I must admit).
DIPLOMA CEREMONY. This year´s BI+KHIO joint learning program was formally finalized as always on the third MOD week´s Friday late afternoon, with a MOD diploma ceremony after a full day´s rich group presentations. Each student got a MOD diploma signed by the four course responsible (this year: Reidar Holtskog, Kristin Danielsen, Halldor Gislason and myself.) Even if the joint lecturing, seminars and supervisions now are over, we hope the contact and networking among the students continue after the intensive shared ideations, project work and learning efforts.
PROJECT REPORTS. BI students are however not finished yet, they are now continuing their group work writing their around 20 pages project reports. Deadline is 10 February as already announced.
MOD is not only about ideations, it is also about collaborating in mixed groups, and contributing to creative work in Oslo and maybe to students´future careers. So I would encourage you to think about how you worked your way (or not) through various challenges. All groups have no doubt experienced a variety of challenges and tensions. Rather than expecting only positive vibs, one may regard tensions as potentially productive and even a source for creativity and for learning. This can be difficult to sort out when in the midst of hard working. Now, after the most intensive period, you have a chance to reflect.
In this respect, I encourage you to also think about nuances in your experiences and discuss with others, e.g. in the groups: How did the group deal with emergent problems and various efforts towards ideas or solutions? Even breakdowns can become positive. It is possible to explore and reflect on these challenges as a chance to learn from this complex collaborating. Failures and temporary misunderstandings are more often than not a recurrent part of innovating.

Looking forward to your presentations tomorrow! Aud C1 050 at BI, 8.00-17.55.
18 mixed BI+KHIO groups are to present, exciting... There seems to be several interesting aspects in your ideas such as combining environmental and cultural concerns. More on your ideas after your pres!
Good luck tomorrow,
Birgit
PS the groups that have not yet published here may do so f.ex after the weekend!

Bedre sent, enn aldri.
Heisann godt folk.
Her er vi, gruppe 12. Riksmuseet.

Gr. 9 "Barn i byen"
good night and good luck

Frodo with his excellent drawing skills. Et av de første utkastene våre. Utkastet ble kastet ut!!!
Siste innspurt ...

Third MOD week 2009: Process deliveries
Hi groups,
Re FRIDAY 23 Jan - start at 08.00
As announced today, each group has max 15 minutes to present their core idea and project (not incl the feedback and technical set up) on Friday 23 Jan at BI (in the same big Aud).
We begin at BI at 08.00 sharp and continue until all 18 groups have presented (students need to be present). Remember the final diploma ceremony afterwards to celebrate and close the joint BI + KHIO MOD 2009 project, as scheduled (see details in the Friday updated plan).
THURSDAY 22 Jan coordination meeting - CANCELED
Since you have presented with no serious problems two times now, we decided today to DROP the hand-in work and technical coordination on Thursday. The schedule for group presentations on Friday is also already set up (cf. list available from Kristin).
Hence, the meeting is canceled, and it is NOT necessary to show up as scheduled in the program folder on Thursday.
Thus, we trust you work in the groups and are capable of preparing your presentation efficiently in time for being present and all finished FRIDAY MORNING.
TECHNICAL FOR FRIDAY. Take with you data pin and/or PC with cable and make sure you have alternative backups (if something does not work)! NB Make sure you use programs that are already installed or accessible in the BI data system! Are you uncertain, check in advance (in an auditorium or otherwise with BI IT help).
So remember your pins and PCs *have back ups. Also, remember the DVDs, you are to deliver in your group pres. in 2 DVDs simultaneously on Friday, to the BI lecturers.
LANDING THE PROJECT. You can concentrate now the rest of the week on refining your project and finalizing your plans for the Friday presentation!
BLOG. We would appreciate (as part of your process deliveries) that you make at least one pres of the group on this blog! It would be an idea to do this tomorrow, on Wednesday!*It can be brief and does not require a picture if you do not have that. You can make a drawing or sketch, anything you would like... to present your group briefly.
Keep up the good work. Lykke til med innspurten!
Birgit

MOD 09 DAY 10
18 groups presented on Friday at BI.
Many promising ideas..., which can however be further refined.
Lots of suggestions came from fellow students and faculty. This may stimulate your own team´s reflective work, you have to decide what you want to use in order to enhance your project concept.
Think about how you can tie together the many elements of your idea and project. How you can visualize and verbalize it and how you can finance it.
No doubt, much to do in the final rounds... we are soon into the third MOD week.
Hope you got some rest during the weekend, it´s snowing!

Presentation tomorrow
Remember to email Kristin your powerpoints (min. 4, max 6 foils) before 20 (eight) this evening.
So that she can collect everything into one file for timely presentations tomorrow, at BI!
Friday 16 Jan
We start with the second round of group presentations at 9.00 sharp tomorrow, in the big auditorium (C1 050) at BI Nydalen.
Kristin, Reidar og myself will all be present.
Birgit
PS We all learnt something today about both project and action planning AND how one can experiment creatively with various ways of presenting (according to both context and purpose etc. Guess it would be tiring if the extreme extreme were done continuously... but dare to do something attractive and relevant.)

1st milestone - all groups presented their own idea
Friday 9 January - Day 5 in MOD
IDEAS PRESENTED. Every MOD student group presented their idea today in lively ways at BI Nydalen Campus. I was impressed by two things, at least,
1) how enthusiastic and focused you/the group did the 5-10 minutes idea pres, and 2) the creative feedback and generous input activity in the class this morning. Well done!
Ideas were promising, too... and looking forward to the further elaboration of them!
It is worth noticing the way you did all this - focusing on sketching the group idea (at this 1st week stage) and visualizing it on a poster etc. and presenting it to each other. I think you picked up this way of working quickly! It became highly stimulating.
Hope you have a nice Friday night,
Birgit

Triggering ideas and group pres
Hi,
thanks for student presentations on last Friday, 18 Jan MoD 2008! We teachers experienced this 1st milestone in the group work as rewarding, you were offering some really promising ideas and interesting group work! See also Dori's post regarding this.
1. For readers who were not present: We run this 1st CLASS PRES in 2X2 format, groups presented in one of two rooms (auditorium and teachers' cantine) at KHiO for one of two supervising team and commenting audience (BI+KHiO students and some other interested guests). Dividing it in this way we could finish formal presentations somewhat earlier than last year even with more groups presenting (22 groups compared to 18 last year) and most important, keeping up the room for both illuminating presentations and some reflections and interactive Q and A around the ideas or group work. - Group members at this stage typically probe for good ways to convey what can become their core idea and realization or business concept, so allowing for this probing even within the frames of short presentations is important. For example, because several of you were working with sustainability concerns, some of us referred to GRIP centre http://www.grip.no/felles/english.htm as one possible source of info (if that is needed).
2. Remember also from my lecture on innovation process that at some point there is less time for further expansion of ideas or lots of search for new information. In the next days, it is wise to try to crystalize and land the ideas, bringing selective parts of your group work together. You may think of this as weaving your ideas and material.... what you wish to use of what you have now as sketches, diagrams, bits and pieces... bringing it together into something appealing and useful for someone or whatever your group aim at!
Preparing how to present may become useful to intensify both the diverging and this converging process.
3. Re photos and brief group presentations on this blog (a chance to document part of the group process), according to my overview 4 groups are still missing... So we're also looking forward to this!
Groups may also want to share further reflections from their work, which is of course welcome.
